The Heart of the Work

Depth. Insight. Possibility. Joy.

An artist friend once described his creative process like this:

“I embark on a quest to find and connect with pieces of the heart—some battered, some lost, some hidden deep within. Embracing them, I discover treasures.”

To me, this captures the essence of psychotherapy.

Therapy is a sacred space where you slow down, listen closely, and begin hearing your own inner life with greater compassion and clarity. You may be here because of pain, confusion, disconnection, trauma, or a yearning for something more. Through all circumstances, therapy can help you reclaim those parts of yourself which are buried, redirected, or lost.

Yet, this work isn’t only about healing wounds. It’s also about excavating the delicious richness in you, including your joy, humor, creativity and aliveness. The deep work of looking inward makes room for relief which liberates vitality along with the full spectrum of being human.

The heart and center of this process is the relationship we build together.

The therapy relationship emerges from a foundation built on presence and trust. This growth and transformation takes time and willingness. It takes us both showing up equally, with honesty, integrity and consistency. Over time, our relationship becomes the ground upon which all other work is done. Together, we explore patterns, challenge old narratives, and immerse ourselves in mystery, magic and deep knowing.

Sometimes I guide you, offering reflections, asking hard questions, holding our space with steadiness and care. At other times, you lead, bringing your own wisdom while teaching me about your world. We are both teachers and students, continually. This dynamic is welcome and essential.

My nearly four decades of clinical experience have taught me to work deeply and relationally. I freely share my intuition, creativity and grounded presence in our collaboration. Most importantly, I honor the complexities of your inner life while always holding to the possibility of joy, play and becoming.
